Volunteer Groups unite in 'Clean Up Guildford' Event

As part of Keep Britain Tidy's Great British Spring Clean and Surfers Against Sewage's Million Mile Clean , several volunteer groups organised events across Guildford from 11th-13th June.

Starting with a litter pick at St Martha's, organised by Back on Track Fitness, the weekend of events featured clean ups at Pewley Downs, Wey Navigation, Newlands Corner and The Spectrum, in partnership with Guildford and Woking Litterpicking, Surrey UK, the Wey Kayak Club, Dittons Paddleboarding and Green Read Share.

Over 30 volunteers collected nearly 50 bags of rubbish, preventing it from entering (or staying) in our water systems. Bizzare finds included a crisp packet from 2001, a can of WD40, a traffic cone, and an old shoe. Well done to everyone who came along!

Find out about how to join subsequent events over on our Facebook page.
